There is also a lot of sound deadening material that can be stripped so losing weight on these cars is very do-able.

#MK3 TOYOTA SUPRA FONT DRIVER#
Just the driver side alone is 75 pounds and the passenger seat is 55 pounds. The MKIII was the heaviest of all Supras with some weighing as high as 3800pounds if you had a targa top automatic. One downfall about the MKIII Supra is the weight. JZ's are known to be bulletproof and is an excellent choice for higher number hp. The 7M is just as capable and can even give you more horsepower dollar for dollar up until really high numbers. 1JZs are a very popular swap into the MKIII's here in America. In Japan, all MKIII's came with the 1JZ which is a 2.5L inline 6 turbo and were also 24 valve DOHC which had 276hp and 268 lbs of torque. The R154 will bolt up right to where the W58 was so doing a swap with trannies and from NA to boosted is easy as they all drop right in. This transmission is indestructible and can easily handle as high as 800hp reliably. The tranny that came with the turbo motors was the R154. Proper maintenance as in making sure that your oil level is always proper, will prevent detonation and these are sensitive to low oil like a rotary. What a lot of people don't understand, is if you get a metal headgasket, torque it to the correct specs, and use ARP headstuds and bolts, it is comparable to the JZ line as it is really durable. It came equipped with a stock CT26 Turbo. It is still a 3.0L block just like the NA but this one has different compression ratios and different specs. Because of these factors, 7m's are known to be problematic with blowing headgaskets and had a bad reputation which I will shed light on. The headgasket material itself as well was changed and could have caused some problems as well.
#MK3 TOYOTA SUPRA FONT MANUALS#
The put in their manuals that it was 50 lbs when it should have been torqued to 80-90 pounds. Toyota didn't give correct torque down specs of the headgasket. The 7MGE motors and even the GTE's suffered a major problem. The 3rd gear is widely known to be stripped or even shatter due to, to much torque. Many people say around 350hp is where they started experiencing detonation. The W58 was not good when it came to modified cars. The W58 tranny was popular and had a crowd following for being an amazing feeling gearbox and smooth as butter transitions.

NA Supras had a 7MGE which was a 3.0L inline 6 with 24 valves, fuel injection, and DOHC. The motors powering these beasts depended on what version you had and even what country. When I bought mine, I made sure there was no connecting front. There was no connecting piece on the 1st models which in my opinion is a lot nicer.

Difference being fog lights and also the very middle of the car where the hood and the bumper meet. Another thing you'll notice is the front end is different from the 2nd models (1989-1992). The production ran until 1992 (1992's are extremely rare and hard to find.) The 1st models of the 3rd gen Supra (1986-1988) had the tail lights that were not connected in the middle like a one piece so they were two separate lights. The MKIII Supra came out later 1986 or commonly known as the 1986.5.
